Princípio Marley começou suas experimentações musicais com o ska e passou aos poucos para o reggae enquanto o estilo se desenvolvia. Marley é talvez mais conhecido pelo seu trabalho com o grupo de reggae The Wailers, que incluía outros dois célebres músicos, Bunny Wailer e Peter Tosh. Tiroteio e violência eleitoral Em 1976, dois dias antes de um show gratuito organizado por Bob Marley e o então primeiro-ministro jamaicano Michael Manley durante as eleições gerais, Marley, sua esposa Rita e o empresário Don Taylor foram baleados na residência do astro em Hope Road. Marley sofreu ferimentos leves no braço e no tórax. Don Taylor levou a maior parte dos tiros em sua perna e torso ao andar acidentalmente na frente da linha de fogo. Ele foi internado em estado grave mas recuperou-se. Rita Marley também foi internada após um grave ferimento na cabeça. Acredita-se que o tiroteio teve motivações políticas (os políticos jamaicanos eram em geral violentos na época, especialmente quando as eleições se aproximavam). O concerto foi visto como um gesto de apoio ao primeiro ministro, e supostamente Marley foi alvo dos defensores do partido conservador da Jamaica, o Jamaican Labour Party. Robert Nesta Marley, conhecido como Bob Marley Juventude Bob Marley nasceu em 6 de fevereiro de 1945 em Saint Ann, no interior da Jamaica, filho de Norval Marley, um militar branco inglês e Cedella Booker, uma adolescente negra vinda do norte do país. Cedella e Norval estavam de casamento marcado para 9 de julho de 1944. No dia seguinte ao seu casamento, Norval abandonou-a, porém continuou dando apoio financeiro para sua mulher e filho. Raramente os via, pois estava constantemente viajando. Robert Nesta Marley, mais conhecido como Bob Marley (Saint Ann, 6 de fevereiro de 1945 — Miami, 11 de maio de 1981) foi um cantor, guitarrista e compositor jamaicano, o mais conhecido músico de reggae de todos os tempos, famoso por popularizar o gênero. Grande parte do seu trabalho lidava com os problemas dos pobres e oprimidos. Ele foi chamado de "Charles Wesley dos rastafáris" pela maneira com que divulgava a religião através de suas músicas. Bob foi casado com Rita Marley, uma das I Threes, que passaram a cantar com os Wailers depois que eles alcançaram sucesso internacional. Ela foi mãe de quatro de seus doze filhos (dois deles adotados), os renomados Ziggy e Stephen Marley, que continuam o legado musical de seu pai na banda Melody Makers.
